MBTE? Why would MTBE be in my drinking water? If you live on or near Narrows
Road in Assonet, you need to know that MTBE has been found in a private well.
It may also be in your well or the soil where your garden is.
What is MTBE?
MTBE (methyl
tertiary butyl ether) is a synthetic chemical that is added to gasoline
to improve air quality as part of the Clean Air Act (CAA). MTBE is
usually added to Reformulate Gasoline (RFG), oxygenated fuel and premium grades
of unleaded gasoline.
